Report

Dan the man double destroys Whiteheads.
Race were looking for their 1st back to back victories in 3 seasons and an easier game would of been welcomed, rather than away trip to Whiteheads which is always a difficult task. Race started brightly and played some excellent attacking football, and with Daniel Lewis playing in a role behind the lone striker of Ben Gifford, Race were causing the home side many problems. As Whiteheads started to settle into the game they could sense a goal coming as the away keeper Ashley Buckwell was looking a bit ropey. Just like Dracula, Ashley Buckwell panicked when a cross came in and gifted the home striker the simplest of finishes. Whiteheads started to get a bit of a grip on the game and if it hadnt have been for the back 4 of Wayne "back in the team after my sulking episode" Jobbins, Barry Reed, Dan Mutlow, and Chris Bartlett with their solid defending then the game could of been out of Races reach. With only 2 minutes of the 1st half left, the home side did manage to break the solid defensive of Race, and with the home striker bearing down on goal, keeper Ashley Buckwell stood there like a rabbit in headlights, and the striker trickled the ball past him. 2 nil half time to Whiteheads. Race came out all guns ablazing in the 2nd half and with the slick movement in the middle of the park from Sam Gifford and Daniel Lee spaces were opening up. The home side couldnt cope with the blistering pace on the wings of Gavin Davies and Scott "i miss tom so much" Waters. As the game wore on Ben Gifford and the immense Daniel Lewis started to tire the defence with their running on and off the ball. Race got a goal back when Daniel Lewis found Ben Gifford out wide with a Beckham style pass, that he crossed to the edge of the box for the onrunning Daniel Lewis to volley into the top corner. Moments later Gavin Davies clipped a precise ball into the path of Daniel Lewis inside his own half, he then beat 3 players and raced toward goal. With only the advancing keeper to beat, he rifled an unstoppable left footed drive in off the post. With time ticking away, Race found a winner when Daniel Lewis flicked the ball over the top for Ben Gifford to easily score past the stranded Whitehead goalie. The final 5minutes were panicky for Race as they were desperate for the 3 points, and with Ashley Buckwell flapping at everything that came his way it was left to the quality defenders to clear his line for him. The final whistle blew and there was a big sigh of relief from Ashley Buckwell as he knows if he keeps performing like that its only a matter of time before Scotwardo Jenkins claims his number1 shirt off him.
